Wadih was 25 when, in 2023, he managed to cross the border between Turkey and Bulgaria. Shortly after crossing it, he was captured by the Bulgarian Border Police in Elhovo and imprisoned in the Lyubimets Detention Center on 9th October, 2023.

After a few weeks of detention, Wadih was transferred to the open camp of Harmanli, where he decided to leave Bulgaria together with a group of people he had met there.

The family’s last contact with Wadih was on 1st November 2023, shortly before he attempted to cross the border from Bulgaria into Serbia.
