Hassan Muhammad Bakro
Hassan Muhammad Bakro, 26
Due to the war in Syria, Hassan fled to Lebanon with his wife and two young children. Later, he decided to continue his journey to Europe in search of work. At the end of November 2022, he crossed the Bulgarian-Turkish border with some companions and likely a guide. He was 26 years old. The last contact with his family was on November 25, 2022, near a church close to the E79 Road.
Since that day, his family has never stopped searching for him. They contacted the Bulgarian Red Cross, sending his ID and DNA for identification, but none of the checks conducted in hospitals or prisons turned up any trace of his presence. They also reached out to the Bulgarian embassy in Beirut, but their inquiries were met with indifference. The authorities simply claimed to be unaware of anything. The family then tried searching for him in Turkey as well.
The family is desperate to know the truth about Hassan's fate. They denounce the deceit and cruelty of the smugglers, who present the journey as easy but then abandon people in the woods. The family wants to hold these smugglers accountable for Hassan's disappearance. Additionally, they have faced exploitation, with many individuals demanding money in exchange for information, which later turned out to be false. About a year ago, the family received information that Hassan was in prison, but they have been unable to determine which one.
Hassan's brother explained why it is so important for them to find Hassan: even if he is dead, his wife, children, and mother deserve at least an answer.
Hassan is 1.70 meters tall, with black hair and brown eyes. He has a small deformity in his left thumb and suffers from a knee condition.
